A few days before the end of 2020, some Venetians hung a banner over the edge of the Rialto Bridge to say goodbye to a difficult year.
#Fanculo2020 read the banner. A simple curse that sums up how everyone the world over feels.
F*** Off, 2020. See you later. We’ve had enough.
To be sure this wasn’t a photoshopped joke, I browsed the news for more images of the banner. ANSA reports that the anonymous pranksters meant “no provocation…just one of our usual gestures between irony and provocation, wishing for better times considering how hard [2020] was, both in terms of health and victims but also economically.”
Police asked the perpetrators to remove the banner “on the spot.” But it hung long enough above the Grand Canal for several amused onlookers to take photographs. You can browse the hashtag all over the internet for more examples.
