The Feast of Corpus Domini, also known as the Feast of Corpus Christi, holds a significant place in the history of Orvietoy. The feast celebrates the belief in the real presence of the body and blood of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Orvieto's connection to this celebration dates back to the 13th century when a Eucharistic miracle occurred. According to the legend, a doubting priest witnessed the transformation of the bread and wine into flesh and blood during Mass. To commemorate this event, Orvieto organizes a grand medieval procession on the feast day. Participants dressed in medieval costumes parade through the city, carrying the Holy Sacrament under a magnificent canopy. I was visiting Orvieto on Corpus Domini several years ago and shot this unedited footage. It's not the complete procession—please bear with me as I'm trying to find the rest of the footage—but it is nearly 20 minutes of medieval costume after medieval costume. There is so much finery to observe, from velvet to armor, and the town participants wear their clothing with such pride despite the early June heat. ✅ Learn more about Umbria: https://www.italofile.com/umbria/ ✅ Take a private tour of Orvieto and its cathedral: https://tidd.ly/3ITSa7A
